Unlike specialists, who focus on treating ailments specific to one body area or system, general physicians treat all types of adult disorders. Contrary to popular belief, specialists do not hold higher status in the medical community. A general practitioner holds equal significance as we tend to him initially whenever we experience any form of pain or discomfort within our body. We see a specialist only after he examines us and informs us that we require one. Furthermore, a general physician possesses comprehensive understanding about every portion of the body, but a specialist is fully knowledgeable about a particular organ or system.
